Aircraft fans are being given the chance to get up close and personal with the last flying Vulcan at Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield this winter.
This Christmas people are being given the chance to book their chance to experience aviation history as a present with a difference.
The last airworthy Avro Vulcan XH558, a Cold War delta-wing bomber that first left the ground over half a century ago, can be visited in her hangar at Robin Hood Airport.
Bookings are being taken for New Year tours of the hangar which give fans a close up experience of the ‘tin triangle’ in all her restored glory, as well as a 25 minute tour and a chance to speak to some of the engineers and senior staff involved in the project.
Michael Trotter, Business Development Director of the Vulcan To The Sky Trust, said: “What a fantastic Christmas gift. The chance to witness our pride and joy first hand in the New Year is a really super gift. We know many fans are as passionate as we are about the famous bomber.
“Seeing her up close is an unforgettable experience and something we are keen to share. After all the hard work and dedication put into her award-winning restoration and maintenance it is great to see she is still appreciated.”
Steve Gill, Managing Director of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “We are very happy to have the Vulcan based with us here at Doncaster Sheffield Airport. The plane is a key part of aviation history and it’s a real privilege to give people near and far the opportunity to experience such an important aircraft.”
Since the restoration in 2007, Vulcan XH558 has been seen by more than ten million people at over 60 locations with an outstanding three million turning out to see her during the 2012 Diamond Jubilee season.
The Vulcan served with the RAF from 1960 to 1985 and as a display aircraft from 1986 to 1992.
She is currently operated by the Vulcan To The Sky Trust and is funded entirely by voluntary donations and the National Lottery’s Heritage Fund.
