Love was in the air at Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield as passengers were treated to a host of celebrations marking Valentine’s Day.
The airport gave out chocolate love hearts to passengers travelling out on the 14:15 Thomson flight to Tenerife, while the departure lounge was awash with colour and balloons, including a red carpet on entry.
John and Elaine Middleton from Willerby, near Hull, were on the flight to Tenerife and received their surprise pack of free chocolates. The couple were travelling to the Canary Island to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on February 22.
Staff at the World Duty Free shop also dressed in red, offering champagne and chocolates to passers-by, while The Running Horse Pub located within the airport handed out love heart sweets and ‘I Love You’ chocolate sprinkles on top of hot drinks.
Hannah Mohamed, store manager at World Duty Free, said: “We pulled out all the stops to make Valentine’s Day a special occasion for every passenger at the airport. It was an opportunity for a bit of fun and excitement before people travelled and it helped get their holidays off to a great start.
“We filled our week with Valentine’s activities to give the passengers more than they imagined. Love has certainly been in the air and it has generated a fantastic atmosphere around the airport.”
Joanne Hubbard, manager at the Wetherspoon pub The Running Horse, added: “We dressed up the pub, got the red carpet out and really had a fun celebration. It was great to see so much activity around the airport with all the retailers getting involved, making the passenger experience a little bit more fun and special.”
