Airport secures global cargo movement

Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield is firmly on the global logistics map following a recent cargo movement to Australia.

A specialist oil and gas logistics support company, which are based in Australia recently chose the airport’s specialist cargo service to transport four Hagglund BV206 ATV’s, weighing 26.5 tonne, to Perth, Western Australia.

The vehicles departed from Doncaster Sheffield Airport on an Atlas Air Boeing 747-400 Freighter – which is the second time the specialist cargo aircraft has visited the airport within the last 4 months.

Gary Winterman, managing director of Anglo World Cargo, which works in partnership with the airport to deliver the cargo service, said: “We are delighted to be the airport of choice for such a specialist logistics company.

“To be able to provide a service whereby such large, bespoke, vehicles are transported all the way to Australia is a massive coup for the airport and our cargo offering.

“Cargo is seen as a catalyst for developing the region’s logistics presence and we are helping to put Doncaster firmly on the map as a can do location and centre of excellence for logistics.

“We firmly believe that we offer the marketplace a cost effective, fast, efficient and flexible solution to moving specialist airfreight in and out of the UK and across the globe and our recent cargo movement to Australia is testament to this.

The airport’s Cargo Terminal consists of 55,000 sq ft of operational space and is equipped with a full range of equipment and facilities capable of handling any aircraft. This, coupled with the airport’s 2893m runway, means that Anglo World Cargo have the ability to handle all aspects of airfreight from the smallest parcel to bespoke charters of the largest cargo aircraft, up to and including Antonov-225’s
