Passengers travelling in and out of Yorkshire will be given a Tour de France welcome at one of the county’s leading airports.
Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield has been given a yellow painted bike by Marketing Sheffield to celebrate the Grand Départ travelling through South Yorkshire. The bike can currently be seen by the Robin Hood stature just before security.
The bikes are being distributed across the city region and becoming eye-catching landmarks, raising awareness of the world’s greatest cycle race this weekend (July 5-6).
Doncaster Sheffield Airport is set to be a key location for travellers coming into the region to watch the event as it’s just 25 miles from where the Yorkshire route of the race comes to an end.
Chris Harcombe, Head of Aviation Development at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “Having the Tour de France in Yorkshire will offer a huge profile opportunity to market the county to the world. The race is viewed by more than three billion people and will be a once-in-a-lifetime occasion for the region.
“The yellow bikes are very eye-catching and will be a focal point for thousands of passengers as they pass through the airport.”
